South Carolina

Bluegrass & Traditional Music Association

Welcome to the South Carolina Bluegrass and Traditional Music Association

The SCBTMA's primary objectives are to preserve, promote, publicize, and support these unique musical styles through concerts, workshops, and public education programs. We invite you to join us in sharing the future of bluegrass and traditional music in South Carolina. Your membership and personal involvement can make a difference.

  • Works with other nationally recognized organizations with the same objectives.
  • Consciously provides a family setting in which experienced musicians can pass on this musical heritage to younger ones via the oral tradition.
  • Strives for public recognition of outstanding SC musicians.

BoysFarm Musical Instrument & Supply Donations

The SCBTMA delivered several musical instruments Friday December  to "Boys Farm" in Newberry, SC. Jim Jordan and Leo Pearson met with Patti Branham and Executive Director, Michael Davis to deliver instruments that were requested by the house parents on behalf of the students. Boys Farm's mission is to "provide for the physical, educational, emotional, and spiritual needs of all the children at Boys Farm." It is the SCBTMA's privilege to provide instruments to enhance the children's musical education. Many thanks to our SCBTMA members who so generously donated instruments. We still have instruments available and encourage more donations as we will continue donating to educational opportunity like Boys Farm.

Remembering the Life and Legacy of Bill & Louise Wells

It is with heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of our beloved friend Selma Louise Wells. As the wife of the founder of Bills Music Shop and Pickin' Parlor, Bill Wells, Mrs. Wells was the ever present matriarch who greeted everyone with a warm smile and friendly greeting. Bill and Louise were the first to be awarded "Lifetime Memberships" to the South Carolina Bluegrass and Traditional Music Association. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Wells family and may God extend His blessing on them.
